Jolly Holiday Prep 2K16: Day 10

Posted on Updated on

Were you able to get your passwords all organized?  I’d love to see what you came up with.  I’m still working on my notebook, but hope to have it done soon.

Today’s Challenge:

What would you do if your purse or wallet got stolen?  Would you know what credit cards/debit cards are in your wallet to call and cancel?  How about your online transactions?  Do you keep a log of those to monitor your credit cards?  Credit card fraud is happening more and more frequently so today I’m encouraging you to open your wallet/purse and write down the cards you keep inside.  Make a list of the credit card,  the credit card number along with the expiration date and 3 digit code on the back.  Below that information, write down the 800 or 888 number on the back of the card.  In case your card gets stolen from your purse or wallet or is compromised from an online transaction, you will have the phone number to call and cancel the card and report it stolen.  With the holidays approaching, this is SO important.  Fraud happens every day no matter how careful you are.  Prepare yourself in case it happens to you!

Have a Joyful Day…I’ll see you tomorrow!

Jolly Holiday Prep 2K16: Day 9

Posted on Updated on

*I’m not sure why this didn’t post yesterday, I’m certain I posted it, but we also had storms most of the day so it must not have gone through!

How did it go yesterday getting your cleaning schedule written down?  I’ll post mine for the whole week in the next day or two!

Today’s Challenge:

Passwords.  Do you have a designated spot for them?  How do you categorize them?  I have so many sticky notes or pieces of paper with passwords written on them…its a total mess.  I purchased a small notebook to keep and organize all my passwords once and for all.   I challenge you to do this today along with me!  This will be SO helpful to me, hope it helps you too!

Share with me how you organize your passwords!  Leave me a comment or tag me on social media 🙂

Jolly Holiday Prep 2K16: Day 8

Posted on Updated on

Hello Monday!  It’s a fresh new week…are you ready to get started?

A little over 12 weeks until Thanksgiving AND 17 weeks (from yesterday) until Christmas, or 118 days.

Let’s keep plugging along to get organized and ready for the upcoming Holidays.  Continue looking at the lists we started last week.  Make any additions to your calendars as new events need to be added.  Keep adding to your donate and sell boxes. Keep gathering addresses and recipes.

Today, let’s start talking about things you do around the house.  Having a smooth running home definitely helps the stress level, especially during the holidays.  Let me start off by saying, make things your OWN.  What I do may not align with your schedule and vice versa!  I’m here to offer suggestions on what works for us and hopefully can help someone else in some small way.  Our home is not perfect, it’s LIVED in, which to me is what matters most.

We recently did a home remodel and added onto our home.  Once that was finished, I took my notebook and walked to each room.  I asked myself, if I was going to clean this room, what all would I do?  I wrote things down and made a list for each room in our home.  I had 2 different columns.  One for daily weekly cleaning and one for monthly/or longer cleaning.  This was a game changer for our family.  I was able to lay each list out, pull things from each list and make a weekly/monthly cleaning schedule.  I have a daily list that I slide into a sheet protector and put it in our “family command center” and as things get done for the day…it gets checked off. Everyone helps.  NOW, let me say…I use the term SCHEDULE very loosely around here.  We are self employed AND we homeschool.  We have a large family.  Some days, everything gets checked off, other days NOTHING gets checked off.  Sometimes it’s somewhere in between. It’s real life.  Things come up, others need help, special events, etc.  Please give yourself and your family members GRACE.  We all mess up.  Remember, tomorrow is another day and we need to be thankful for each and every day–even if it’s a day of chaos.

With that being said, I’m going to give you glimpse into what’s on todays list at our home, with some side notes along the way…

MONDAY

Have each child remove their bed sheets and bring them to the laundry room  **This is actually easy for them to do.  AND, it is usually a race.  First one is always done right away, last one in, is sometimes in the evening before they get their fresh clean sheets back!

Gather Laundry from each bathroom basket and replace hand towels too!  **The kids know that their laundry goes into the baskets or it doesn’t get washed.

Start Laundry  **Note, I try do laundry every single day, except Sunday.  It works for us.  Our laundry mostly stays caught up this way.  I start the washer and set a reminder on my phone so I remember to switch it over.  I do this with each load, but again, I can get easily distracted and get off track.  It’s OK!

Clean out fridge  **I do this every Monday, because I’m in town for other things most Tuesdays so I get groceries on Tuesday as well.  Cleaning out the fridge on Monday helps me make my grocery list and makes it easier to put groceries away into a clean fridge.

Mop Kitchen and Bathroom Floors, Sweep the rest of the house.  **I try to do this on Mondays and Fridays.  It’s nice to start our week off fresh and clean and on Fridays, it’s nice to have it clean for the weekend.  Some weeks it only happens once a week.  It does get done at least once.

Gather Trash and Burn it.  Put recyclables into proper containers.  **We live in the country and do not have trash pick up.  We take our recyclables to town every couple of weeks.

The basics are always done…we try to pick up after ourselves, but before bed we always do a quick pick up and everyone pitches in (toddlers and teens included!) I empty the dishwasher out in the mornings.  Dishes are rinsed out and put into the drainer as we use them throughout.  I can usually get by with running the dishwasher once a day and I load it and run it after dinner in the evening.

TODAYS CHALLENGE:  Do you have some type of simple cleaning schedule?  If not, I encourage you to go into each room and write down what all you do in that room if you are cleaning it.  We’ll work on pulling it all together at the end of the week.  I’ll share things I just do monthly on the 1st (this Thursday).

Have a Joyful Day and I’ll see you tomorrow!

Hope your Saturday is going well 🙂  Have you been working on your lists all week?

Continue doing the following:

**Add 1 item to either your donate or sell box every day!  You’ll have sold or donated 100 items by the time our challenge is done!  Think about the end result as you add something to your boxes.  Feel free to add more than 1 item…we all have things to declutter.

**Write down what you had for dinner last night.

**Continue adding addresses to your list.

**Continue to look over your gift list and add as you wish.  Think of a gift idea…write it down!!  You can always change it later 🙂

TODAYS CHALLENGE

Do you do holiday baking?  Today I want you to start pulling your recipe cards or books that have recipes you only make at Christmas time.  We’ll organize them into a document later, just start gathering them today.  Do you do Pinterest?  Start a new Board and title it how you will remember it.  If you go to my Pinterest page, you will see mine there.  The board is “Christmas Treats to Make”  I won’t make everything there, but I like to gather fun stuff!  I have certain things I *always* make and those are the first things I will gather.

Leave me a comment and share what you always make, no matter what! 🙂

Have a Joyful Day!!

Jolly Holiday Prep 2K16: Day 5

Posted on Updated on

It’s Friday!  This week went by quickly.  Hope you can soak up some sunshine this weekend.  I’m not ready for summer to end, I can’t believe September is just around the corner.

Continue doing the following:

Add 1 item to either your donate or sell box.
Write down what you had for dinner last night.
Continue adding addresses to your list. I’ve noticed it’s really difficult to just look it up in the phone book. So many people have given up their home phones so it’s a little more tricky.

TODAYS CHALLENGE:

Now that you’ve started your Stocking Stuffer List, let’s start working on ideas for those you are buying for.  Take a look at the list you have started of those you will be buying for.  Do you have any idea what you’d like to get them yet?  Start jotting down some ideas.  If you are making them something, start working on it now.  If you are buying something, write it down so you can start watching for a sale on that item.  I’m all about deals and I will start posting deals as I see them.

And while you are at it, start a list of things you’d like to have.  Someone is going to ask you for ideas and you can refer to your list and share those ideas because you are already writing things down.

We’ve started a lot of lists this week.  These are all works in progress.  We’ll add to them, we’ll take away from them.  But, the important thing is, we’ve started them and we’ll have them finished in no time!

Please feel free to share ideas of things you are making or things you are buying for others!  I *LOVE* seeing others ideas.  You may help someone else come up with just the right gift by sharing.

Have a Joyful Day!

Jolly Holiday Prep 2K16: Day 4

Posted on

Hope your week is going well!  I can’t believe how fast August is flying by!

Here are some things you should be doing each day…

Add 1 item to either your donate or sell box.
Write down what you had for dinner last night.
Continue adding addresses to your list. I’ve noticed it’s really difficult to just look it up in the phone book. So many people have given up their home phones so it’s a little more tricky.

TODAYS CHALLENGE

So, yesterday you started your list of who you need to buy for.  Keep adding to that list as you think of others.  The reason I’m asking you to do this so early, is once the holiday season is upon us, we seem so frazzled and rushed and that’s when we tend to forget someone or something.  Doing it now will save you so much time later on!
TODAY, start a list of stocking stuffers.  Tell me who you buy stocking stuffers for?  I will keep a master list as you share ideas with me and post it so you can quickly look at it when the time comes.  Leave me a comment of your favorite stocking stuffer to GIVE and your favorite stocking stuffer you RECEIVE.  Personally, stockings are my favorite to both buy and receive so this is FUN for me.  Start picking things up NOW while you are out.  Gather a few things at a time, then it’s much easier later on!  For example, everyone here always gets toothbrushes in their stocking.  Something simple I can pick up now and just put back…and it’s DONE.  I’ll post my list later today.  Hope you’ll share yours too.

Have a Joyful Day!

Jolly Holiday Prep 2K16: Day 3

Posted on

Happy Wednesday!  We’re on day 3, how are you doing so far?

Here are some things you should be doing each day…

  1. Add 1 item to either your donate or sell box.
  2. Write down what you had for dinner last night.
  3. Continue adding addresses to your list.  I’ve noticed it’s really difficult to just look it up in the phone book.  So many people have given up their home phones so it’s a little more tricky.

Ok, for today’s challenge, start a new section in your notebook for GIFTS.  Yes, I know you have 123 days until Christmas, but it’s not too early to start…or at least get a plan.  Simply make a list of who you need to buy for today.  You may have to add to this as you think of others, but just START.  🙂

Remember…use hash tag #JollyHolidayPrep2K16 and post your pictures of what you did today! Encourage others to join in on our challenge.
