Christmas Lights

Jolly Holiday Prep 2K16: Day 69

Posted on Updated on

Hope you are enjoying your weekend!  The weather is beautiful here so…

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:  Get outside and put anything away for the winter that you can!  Rake leaves, clean up the yard and finish up anything outside that needs to be done.  If you feel inspired, go ahead and work on Christmas Lights outside or put Garland on your porch…things like that can be done now while the weather is decent outside!  If you wait until closer to Thanksgiving, the COLD may not inspire you to be outside to decorate.  P.S….Just because you are putting stuff out, doesn’t mean you have to turn lights on now…I don’t turn mine on until the day after Thanksgiving…you are just being PREPARED!

Whatever you do today outdoors, Have a Joyful Day and I’ll see you tomorrow!

TODAY’S CHALLENGE:  Do you put Christmas Lights outside?  Today, I want you to take a look at your inventory, test your lights and see what you have and what you might need!  Go ahead and start stringing your lights on trees while its not freezing cold outside!  Then when you are ready to turn them on the day after Thanksgiving, or whenever you like to do so, all you have to do is plug them in!  I do this every year and I’m always so glad I do.  I like to decorate our evergreen trees so it’s nice to get them done early and mark that off my list!

Even if you don’t usually do lights outside, I encourage you to do some this year.  One little tree or bush?  It doesn’t take much.  Most retailers are already stocking their shelves with lights so it’s simple to find some.

Here are some of my favorite things for working with lights…

The Light Keeper REALLY works!  This is my main tool to use.  I’ve saved SO many strands of lights using this handy tool!

Need to reach high trees?  No problem!  Use an extension pole with a handy hook attachment!

Let your lights shine and have a Joyful Day!

Outdoor Christmas decorating

christmas lights

The days are flying by,  and the Christmas season is quickly approaching!  I’m enjoying these beautiful fall days by decorating for Christmas outdoors.  It’s nice to get the lights all out while it’s still warm outside and enjoy the beautiful fall colors of the trees while listening to the hums from the equipment of the farmers working in nearby fields.  And no worries,  I do not turn my lights on until the day after Thanksgiving, it’s just really nice to have this job done early so I can enjoy fall and Thanksgiving.

A few things that are so helpful while outside decorating is my telescoping pole, my Light Keeper Pro and lots and lots of lights!

If you don’t have the Light Keeper Pro, you must get one!  It really works, and works well.  It’s always so frustrating when you pull out a strand of lights, only to have 1/2 of the strand light up.  This little tool clips onto the light socket, give it a couple clicks (or sometimes more) and it fixes the strand.  I’ve had such success with this little tool and it’s always handy while I’m working.  Please remember, it won’t fix every strand.  Sometimes there is just nothing you can do to revive it, but this tool does work well and I’m so pleased with it!

The telescoping pole is great for reaching tall sections of trees you are working on.  We have a lot of evergreens so using this tool is so helpful.  It’s sturdy and it’s a must have!  It’s much better than dragging a ladder outside and moving it constantly trying to put lights on the tree.  (this was given to me as a gift and I’m SO thankful for it!)

and the attachment

And finally, lots and lots of lights!  Clear, colored, whatever makes you happy!
